Hi! My name is Kelly and I've been stitching for 30 years (am I really that old?? 😂).
I started stitching when I was 10 at a craft shop in Blackwood and took to it like a fish to water. I stitched on small things at the time, limited to what I could find in shops and also to my budget.
I took a break in 2004 and learnt patchwork and quilting, english paper piecing, knitting and crochet as I wanted something more portable to take with me on holidays.
In 2016 I stumbled across a cross stitch thread on Ravelry and someone there was stitching QS Grumpy Red Fairy by Jasmine Beckett Griffith charted by Heaven and Earth Designs. I fell in love with the design, bought the pattern, drove across the city to find a cross stitch store that sold aida and pulled out all my old threads and started it the next day. I finished that pattern in 2017 and bought many more patterns in the meantime. Some I've since finished and some are still WIPs.
From there it has been a whirlwind of learning all about the new things that the Digital Age brings.
Full coverage, non full coverage, aida, linen, 1 over 1, 2 over 2, dye lots, specialty threads, full cross, tent stitch.... what do all these things mean? I need a thesaurus to keep up!
In 2024, I decided to check out what FlossTube was all about and haven't looked back since. It has meant I've started quite a few things in 2024 due to being influenced by everyone's projects.
I also became green with envy that everyone was attending Stitching Retreats and I am not currently able to. I looked around and asked a few questions and found out that there wasn't anything like that set up in Adelaide so I came up with the crazy idea of doing it myself.
I rounded up all my crafty friends and asked them if I were to go ahead with my crazy idea whether they would join me and they all said yes (thankfully!).
And that's how Stitching Sunday came to be ❤️
